SPT {signs of spring}

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

little sprouts pushing through the earth · the dirt and rock cake my daughter made for me, complete with stick candles · the sudden desire to go on a cleaning rampage

SPT {signs of spring}

opening the windows to let the fresh air in the house · the neighbors coming out of hibernation to garden, mow the lawn, wash the car, go for a walk · kids playing outside

And one of my favorite signs of spring I saw today: two teenage boys riding their bikes, holding flowers behind their backs, smiling sheepishly at the two teenage girls walking toward them. Ah, it must be spring — love is in the air!

{ all of me }
All Of Me, art journal page, 28 February 2006.

Bad hair day and no makeup. Rattling off some of the ugly bits. Reminding myself of the good bits. Trying to accept that the good and bad balance each other, making me more complete.

SPT {a lack of style}

LOST: Melanie’s Fashion Sense
LAST SEEN: circa 1999 (note: before having children)
DESCRIPTION: a wardrobe of urban+bohemian+flirty tops, skirts and pants (and of course some really fabulous shoes!) has since been replaced by jeans, jeans and more jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, flannel pajama pants, bulky cardigan sweaters as well as ultra ugly slippers bearing the image of a bumblebee and the words ‘Queen Bee.’

SPT {me and my big bro}

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Me and my big brother. Throughout childhood, he was my favorite friend. I believed him (even when he told me I was adopted since I did not strongly resemble either one of my parents). I trusted him (even with my hair, hence the haircut you see in the first and last photos). I bet he even had something to do with my choice in clothes (at least I hope I don’t have to take credit for that fashion fiasco shown in the last photo!). But past the gentle teasing, there was always a strong bond of love and respect.
