SPT {a lack of style}

SPT {a lack of style}

LOST: Melanie’s Fashion Sense
LAST SEEN: circa 1999 (note: before having children)
DESCRIPTION: a wardrobe of urban+bohemian+flirty tops, skirts and pants (and of course some really fabulous shoes!) has since been replaced by jeans, jeans and more jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, flannel pajama pants, bulky cardigan sweaters as well as ultra ugly slippers bearing the image of a bumblebee and the words ‘Queen Bee.’

    I heart you so much for this post. I mourn my loss of fashion–not that I ever had much. All I ever wear is jeans. I look at people I pass in the street and think, ‘man, how do they pull it off?’

  5. la vie en rose Says:

    HA! I love it!!! and oh girl, can i relate!

  6. madness Says:

    hahaha - yo, I saw that picture of you in the purple wig and orange shirt so I know you still got it.

  7. Toni Says:

    Melanie you are very clever and talented.
    Sorry I missed you last friday night. I would have loved taking you through the art museum.

    Don’t forget to accessorize! i.e.: your kids hanging off your pant legs, or smudges from their lunch on your sweater :)

    ESPECIALLY hoodies and pajama pants…

    i am so pathetic i even save my
    jeans

    Hoo hoo! I feel exactly the same way. I wish Clinton and Stacey would do a special book on moms who want to look put together, but still need to be able to be barfed on at a moment’s notice. :)

    love this. since i work from home and only seem to go out to teach yoga, i can feel your pain. i went on a “business trip” last month and had to ask “do i need to wear a suit.” thank goodnes, no, because i would have had to buy one. i am trying to encourage my sense of style every now and then so that i don’t get too overwhelmed when i spend time with my friends who are oh-so-stylish.
    love the way you have put these pictures together. and i love your candid honesty as always!

    Melanie!

    How do you DO it, girl? You manage to pull together separate photos and meld them together into the cutest little doll ever (YOU!) You have more style than anyone I know!

    Hugs-

    Heh. Growing up in the 70s, we wore our jeans and a t-shirts proudly as a sign of rebellion against “fashion”. Then I had to endure the 80s as a working woman - the stupid ties, suits, and all that crap. Ick. I’m back to the t-shirts and jeans, thanks anyway. If I *have* to dress up, it’s black pants, a comfy shirt and a fun jacket.

    Fashion is for fashion victims….

  18. Marilyn Says:

    Melanie, I always think of you as HIP and it has never occurred to me whether or not your clothes are. ;) But I understand the feelings…my ‘hipster’ wardrobe was left behind (given away) when I moved to the Caribbean…and for five years I lived in tank tops and shorts and flip-flops and K-Mart sundresses (hideous!) I’m of an age where I simply don’t care enough about having ‘cute’ clothes anymore…comfort usually wins out. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because I’m so comfortable in my long-term relationship (we’ve both spent almost all of our time at home this winter wearing sweats…romantic!), but I still have my moments. Here’s the irony…I subscribe to Vogue and Elle…I’m just too lazy (most of the time) to put much effort into looking stylish. :)
