The cold, empty feeling inside your gut after an inevitable goodbye. Bitterness, a cool demeanor and a new awkwardness. The harsh, icy reality that nothing stays the same.

Somersaults with my three-year-old. Rescuing a ladybug. Swinging. Creating art. Stopping to smell the flowers. Fresh air. Finding a huge creepy spider. Crunchy autumn leaves. Getting (somewhat) organized. Listening to my five-year-old read aloud a book for the first time. Feeling like a good mom. Enjoying today.

The Mind is Everything

A few months ago, I made a mistake and bought the wrong type of coffee filters. (Who knew that cone filters even existed?) I decided that it made more sense just to keep them and forego returning the darn things — with gas prices as crazy high as they are, plus my time is worth more than the dollar and change I would have got back for them, you know?

But what does one do with a package of coffee filters she cannot use in her coffee maker? Why, she finds another use for them, of course!

Shown above, a fabric ATC that I recently gave my mom for her birthday. The orange background is a coffee filter that I cut, stamped and sewed onto cotton muslin. Then I added the quote (printed on tissue paper) and the image (stamped and colored on tissue paper and embellished with gold microbeads).

So, there you have it… coffee filters. Yet another unusual thing now found in my studio!
