The Mind is Everything

A few months ago, I made a mistake and bought the wrong type of coffee filters. (Who knew that cone filters even existed?) I decided that it made more sense just to keep them and forego returning the darn things — with gas prices as crazy high as they are, plus my time is worth more than the dollar and change I would have got back for them, you know?

But what does one do with a package of coffee filters she cannot use in her coffee maker? Why, she finds another use for them, of course!

Shown above, a fabric ATC that I recently gave my mom for her birthday. The orange background is a coffee filter that I cut, stamped and sewed onto cotton muslin. Then I added the quote (printed on tissue paper) and the image (stamped and colored on tissue paper and embellished with gold microbeads).

So, there you have it… coffee filters. Yet another unusual thing now found in my studio!

It’s beautiful! What a great idea to use those coffee filters. I just recently acquired a sewing machine, and this is a project that inspires me to figure out how to use it!

    Melanie- Sheer Genius! Love it!
I once saw a mixed media piece where the artist had made a complete figure out of round coffee filters (used!) and it was wonderful!
It’s great to see through an artist’s eyes, isn’t it?

This is gorgeous! A friend of mine once showed me how to make “embossed reliefs” using stamps and wet toilet paper. I wonder if it would work with coffee filters :)
